Keepin’ it Edgy! 3 Tips for Maintaining Healthy Edges

LOOSEN UP - Tension and over-pulling can be a major factor in why edges take a hit. Braiding that is too tight on edges that are toothin is a recipe for hair disaster! Be mindful of how much pulling you’re doing on clients’ edges, and remind them to do the same at home. GO INSIDE OUT - The right vitamins and supplements are key in keeping hair healthy. B vitamins, such as Biotin, and Vitamin C and D are all known to be great for hair and skin. Vitamin A helps in the production of sebum, and sebum (aka our natural oil) nourishes hair and scalp. Giving clients quick tips about taking hair vitamins or adding certain foods to their diet can be an added bonus!

 - Reminding clients (and ourselves!) the importance of protecting our strands is crucial! Silk and satin scarfs and/or pillowcases should be mandatory for any style, from protective to natural. Sometimes clients are too busy thinking about going to bed cute, or just too busy to think about it period. Regular pillowcases can add to friction on the hair, and tension + friction = breakage + thinning. Remind your clients that preventing loss is way easier than trying to reverse major damage. What are some other quick tips you can pass on to clients to save the perimeter of a new ‘do? Their precious edges will thank you!
